Pure Place Protein

Pure Place protein powder has just four ingredients and is dairy free and GMO free. It's a smooth, fine powder that dissolves easily in plant-based milks.

What Protein Powder do you use?

I get asked a lot about which protein powder I use. And to be honest, in the past, I haven’t used one very often. Mainly because I haven’t been able to find a flavour I like with ingredients that I’m happy to eat. But a couple of things have changed. I have a goal of completing an Ironman triathlon in June, 2018 and I came across Pure Place protein.

Usually the first thing I do when I come across a new food is read the ingredients list. Pure Place protein lists just four ingredients in their cinnamon and vanilla flavoured protein powder – Organic Pea Protein Concentrate, Natural Flavour, Cinnamon, Natural Sweetener (Stevia Extract). Just four ingredients. And I have to admit I’m a bit of a sucker for cinnamon and vanilla, so I tried it out. They also have a cacao and coconut flavour and a honeycomb cacao flavour. The cinnamon and vanilla and the cacao coconut flavours are both vegan, and the honeycomb cacao flavour is vegetarian (the flavour is derived from honey).

Pure Place offers samples so you can try a sample first to make sure you like the flavour before buying a whole kilo of protein. Because, seriously, how many times have you bought a bag or tin of protein powder, try a scoop, gag a little and then spend the next two months adding bits into a smoothie to try to disguise the flavour? Surely I’m not the only one who’s done that.

So I bought a few samples (each sample is a single serve size) and I tested them out. And by testing them out I mean I added the packet to some rice milk and shook it up in a protein shaker and drank it. Because that’s the only way you’re going to find out if you love or hate the flavour.

The Facts

Pure Place protein is dairy free, gluten free, GMO free as well as being free from artificial flavours and fillers. It’s organic and natural and has 22g of protein per serve. (As an FYI, one serve is just over one third of my daily protein needs).

The Important Part – The Flavour

I didn’t try the honeycomb cacao – so can’t comment on that one.

And even though I am a huge fan of chocolate, I’m not a huge fan of chocolate drinks. If you love chocolate protein, I’m sure you’ll love it. The coconut is not too overpowering, it’s the right combo of cacao and coconut. For me I’d use it in cooking – making protein bars and pancakes and balls, for a different flavour. If cacao drinks are your thing, it’s worth trying for sure.

The vanilla cinnamon was a-maze-ing! It is definitely a flavour I would just drink straight up with some rice milk when I need a protein shot. It’s not chunky, or gaggy, just smooth with the aromatic taste of cinnamon and a hint of vanilla.

Pure place protein is a fine powder, so it blends really easily with either milk, water or coconut water. There are no chunky bits that make you gag and it’s definitely not chalky at all. I swear I’ve tried some protein powders that are just chalk dust with flavouring.

So there you have it – choose your flavour and enjoy some smooth, fine protein powder before or after your workouts, or even when you just need something quickly to fill you up.
